Under the supervision of the Dentist, the Dental Hygienist plays a vital role in supporting patients’ oral health and hygiene. Responsibilities include examining patients for signs of oral disease such as gingivitis, providing preventive dental care, and educating patients on maintaining healthy habits.

Salary: \$31.38/hr

Key Responsibilities

Prepare treatment rooms by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
Greet and prepare patients for dental hygiene treatment with care and professionalism.
Answer patient questions and provide oral health information.
Maintain dental instruments by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting appropriate tools.
Assess oral health and select materials and equipment for each visit.
Perform dental prophylaxis by cleaning teeth and removing deposits and stains.
Conduct oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments, and take radiographs.
Apply fluoride and other preventive treatments to arrest dental decay.
Assist in maintaining patient function and appearance by polishing appliances, fabricating temporary restorations, and finishing restorations.
Support the dentist in managing dental and medical emergencies; maintain CPR certification and emergency protocols.
Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, plaque control, and post-treatment care.
Accurately document patient records, including vital signs and medical/dental histories.
Ensure confidentiality and patient trust by adhering to HIPAA and organizational standards.
Maintain infection-control standards and a safe, clean working environment.
Monitor and maintain dental equipment and supplies, troubleshooting and coordinating repairs as needed.
Stay current in professional knowledge by attending trainings, reviewing publications, and engaging in professional organizations.
Collaborate with the dental team to achieve high-quality patient care and outcomes.

Requirements

Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Current NYS Dental Hygienist License.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
