Key Responsibilities

Preventive & Clinical Care

Conduct oral health assessments, review medical/dental histories, and screen for signs of oral disease
Perform dental cleanings, scaling, root planing, polishing, and stain removal
Apply fluoride, sealants, and desensitizing agents as needed
Take, develop, and interpret dental radiographs (X-rays)
Maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant charting and records
Collaborate with the dentist to identify treatment needs and ensure comprehensive care

Patient Education & Health Promotion

Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques, home care, and nutrition
Provide post-treatment instructions and encourage consistent follow-up care
Communicate treatment plans clearly and compassionately to support patient understanding and trust

Safety & Sterilization

Follow all OSHA, CDC, and NYS Department of Health infection control protocols
Sterilize instruments, disinfect operatories, and maintain a clean, organized workspace
Report equipment issues or potential hazards promptly

Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program
Current and unrestricted New York State Dental Hygienist License
1+ year of clinical experience (2+ years preferred)
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required
Proficient in digital radiography and dental charting software (e.g., Dentrix, Open Dental)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-first mindset
Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-provider setting
Positive, proactive, and team-oriented attitude
