Under direct supervision, the dental assistant supports the delivery of dental care by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials. This role involves assisting faculty, residents, and students within the clinic. Key responsibilities include setting up treatment rooms for scheduled procedures with the necessary trays, instruments, materials, and supplies, as well as taking and developing digital X-rays and assisting with oral examinations and patient charting.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and receive patients for dental treatment, including taking vital signs.

- Pass instruments and materials and perform routine procedures.

- Maintain an active inventory of equipment and supplies.

- Demonstrate the ability to monitor multiple important and complex projects simultaneously.

- Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes or other email software effectively.

- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the preparation of memorandums, letters, and official correspondence.

- Registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is required. Candidates hired as a Dental Assistant for the first time are not required to have a registered license but must obtain it within one year of their date of hire.
