Hygienist Dental

A pediatric dental hygienist promotes oral hygiene and teaches proper dental care to children, adolescents, and young adult dental patients. The challenge of working with children is always present, especially when they are fearful or anxious about visiting the dentist.

Additional responsibilities may include examining patients for oral diseases, assessing children’s dental needs, and selecting appropriate instruments. The hygienist selects materials and equipment for dental hygiene visits by following prescribed procedures and protocols. They prepare patients for dental treatment by welcoming, reassuring, seating, and properly draping them.

They also provide information to patients and staff by answering questions and responding to requests. The hygienist maintains dental hygiene instruments by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting the appropriate tools. They choose materials and equipment for dental health visits by evaluating patients’ health histories and dental care needs.
