Make a Difference in Lives and Communities

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare, particularly to underserved communities with limited access to medical services. Established over 50 years ago by a Latina grandmother and community advocate in Barrio Logan, FHCSD has evolved into one of the largest community health systems in the nation. With over 62 locations, we serve more than 227,000 patients and facilitated over 417,000 visits last year, offering a wide range of healthcare and outreach services to a diverse patient population. We take pride in our mission, the lasting impact we have on the community, and the cultural and individual diversity of our staff.

We are currently seeking a Dental Assistant to join our team. Under the guidance of the Dental Clinic Coordinator or Assistant Director, you will support the Dental Department in its efficient operation. In this role, you will perform tasks with direction from the dental provider while actively developing your skills and competencies. As a Dental Assistant at FHCSD, you will embody a spirit of service, delivering caring, affordable, high-quality healthcare and supportive services to everyone, especially to uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved individuals. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, working with many chronically ill patients, and making a meaningful difference in your community each day. You will enjoy partnering with the dental team to ensure excellence in dental services for every patient.

Key Responsibilities:

- Accurately chart provider diagnoses and assist the front office with patient charts, recalls, billing, X-rays, and filing.

- Maintain instruments and equipment, perform sterilization, prepare tray setups, and stock units to enhance efficiency and quality care while ensuring patient and provider satisfaction.

- Maintain dental equipment, including X-ray machines, sterilizers, vacuum systems, and handpieces. Take high-quality diagnostic X-rays that meet provider and third-party payer standards.

Qualifications:

- Certificate of completion from an accredited dental assistant program or equivalent on-the-job training.

- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required.

- Dental X-ray Certificate.

- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

What We Offer:

- Regular full-time position

- Retirement plan with employer matching

- Paid time off, extended sick leave, and paid holidays

- Medical, dental, vision, FSA, and life insurance

At FHCSD, we were founded by community activists striving for a shared vision: accessible, affordable, high-quality medical care for all. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to community medicine and providing culturally competent care to medically underserved populations.
