For more than 55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) has been dedicated to providing compassionate, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to all—especially individuals who are uninsured, low-income, or medically underserved.

FHCSD is one of the 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the United States, operating more than 90 sites throughout San Diego County. Our network includes primary care clinics, behavioral health facilities, dental and vision clinics, physical rehabilitation centers, outpatient substance use treatment programs, urgent care centers, mobile medical units, and a full-service pharmacy.

Each year, our team serves more than 227,000 patients—91% of whom are low-income and 29% uninsured. We provide comprehensive services including adult and pediatric care, chronic disease management, women’s health and obstetrics, dental and vision services, behavioral health, substance use counseling, specialty care (cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, podiatry, and more), as well as outreach and case management services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Today, FHCSD is the largest community clinic provider for uninsured patients and the largest healthcare safety-net provider in the San Diego region.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Dentist to provide high-quality, comprehensive dental care in alignment with FHCSD’s mission and standards. This role combines clinical excellence with leadership, collaboration, and a strong commitment to community health.

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive dental care, including:

Root canal therapy
Restorative dentistry (operative, fixed, and removable prosthodontics)
Simple and surgical oral procedures
Complete all required documentation accurately and in compliance with departmental and insurance standards
Consult with and refer patients to dental specialists and medical providers as needed
Supervise and provide clinical guidance to dental hygienists, assistants, and other paraprofessional staff
Participate in the development and review of treatment protocols, audit processes, and quality assurance initiatives
Practice cost-effective, resource-conscious dentistry
Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Dental School
Active California license as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.)
Valid DEA license
Current American Heart Association BLS (or ACLS, ATLS, or Advanced Resuscitation Training)
Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of required auto insurance
Ability to travel occasionally between clinic sites

Preferred Qualifications:

General Practice Residency or equivalent of 2 years of clinical experience
Membership in the American Academy of General Dentistry
Bilingual English/Spanish

Experience & Skills

Ability to work effectively with diverse social, cultural, and economic populations
Strong knowledge of dental best practices, protocols, and industry standards
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Effective leadership, coaching, and team collaboration abilities
Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic computer systems
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
Commitment to practicing within established scope-of-practice guidelines

Compensation & Benefits

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $85.58 – $116.35 per hour
