Dental Hygienist

At NY Smiles Dental, our Dental Hygienists are an essential part of our clinical team. In this role, you will collaborate with dentists and dental assistants to support long-term oral health for a diverse patient population. Key Responsibilities

Preventive & Clinical Care

Perform comprehensive oral health assessments, including reviewing dental and medical histories and screening for oral diseases such as cavities and periodontal disease.
Perform professional dental cleanings including scaling, polishing, stain removal, and root planing when appropriate.
Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride, dental sealants, and desensitizing agents.
Take and interpret dental radiographs (X-rays).
Maintain accurate and HIPAA-compliant patient records and charting.
Identify potential treatment needs and communicate findings to the dentist for follow-up care.

Patient Education & Health Promotion

Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and nutrition to support long-term oral health.
Provide post-treatment care instructions and home-care recommendations.
Clearly and compassionately explain treatment findings and recommendations.
Encourage and motivate patients to maintain consistent oral hygiene and regular dental visits.

Safety & Sterilization

Follow infection control protocols in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and New York State Department of Health guidelines.
Sterilize instruments and disinfect treatment areas between patients.
Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked operatory.
Report equipment maintenance issues or potential safety concerns.

Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
Minimum 1 year of experience required (2+ years preferred).
Current and unrestricted New York State Registered Dental Hygienist license.
Experience with dental charting software and digital radiography (e.g., Dentrix Ascend).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to educate and engage patients.
Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-provider practice.
Friendly, team-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently.
Fluency in English required; Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
Strong initiative and problem-solving abilities.

Job Type: Full-time or Part-time
