General Job Description
As a Dental Assistant at FHCSD, you will support the Dental Clinic Coordinator or Assistant Director in ensuring the efficient operation of our Dental Department. You will work closely with the dental team, developing your skills and competencies while providing high-quality, affordable healthcare, particularly to uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved individuals. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, making a meaningful difference in the lives of our chronically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately document diagnoses and assist the front office with charts, recalls, billing, x-rays, and filing.
- Assist dentists and hygienists chairside as needed, ensuring effective communication of treatment information between patients and providers.
- Complete all required documentation thoroughly and on time, meeting department standards and insurance requirements.
- Maintain instruments and equipment, perform sterilization, set up trays, and stock units to ensure efficiency and quality care.
- Process and sterilize instruments, and take diagnostic-quality x-rays as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Certificate from an accredited dental assistant program or equivalent on-the-job training.
- Current American Heart Association BLS (CPR) certification required.
- Dental x-ray certification.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- California Dental Board Dental Practice Act and Infection Control certifications required within the first year of employment.
Experience and Skills:
- Preferred: 1 year of experience as a dental assistant.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English may be required depending on the assignment.
Compensation:
In the spirit of pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $20.00 - $23.90 per hour, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. Your final salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We prioritize pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members in any final offer. Please note that hiring at the top of the range is not typical to allow for future salary growth.
