Job Description

Purpose and Scope:

Teaching faculty are responsible for creating learning activities and support that enable students to meet course objectives and enhance the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses that facilitate student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired on a part-time, semester-by-semester basis, depending on the needs of the college. Applications are accepted year-round from qualified candidates willing to teach part-time. Class schedules may include day, evening, and weekend options at various locations.

Adjunct faculty typically teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions:

- Teach Dental Hygiene courses at various times and locations.

- Develop engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of material.

- Submit required reports and forms promptly.

- Utilize a course syllabus that follows institutional guidelines.

- Meet with and advise students before or after class, or by appointment.

- Evaluate student progress toward course objectives and communicate this in a timely manner.

- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

- Attend required meetings, training, and orientations.

- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

- Demonstrate mastery of course content.

- Exhibit leadership skills that emphasize collaboration and teamwork.

- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

- Embrace diversity and work effectively with a wide variety of people.

- Show interest in interdisciplinary teaching and innovative learning methodologies.

- Develop and implement instructional approaches that engage students.

Physical Abilities:

This position may require physical exertion, such as standing for long periods, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, crouching, and occasionally lifting moderately heavy items.

Work Schedule and Conditions:

- Equipment used includes a PC workstation in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment, as well as specialized discipline-specific tools.

- Interaction with internal and external contacts is required.

- Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom or lab setting, with typical safety hazards present in the industry.

- Hours vary based on class schedules; instructors must meet with students during designated times and be available outside of class.

Required Qualifications:

- Associate degree in dental hygiene with a bachelor’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene, or a DDS from an accredited program.

- Three years of non-teaching experience in the field.

- Current Texas license as RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist) or DDS (Dentist).

Salary:

$58.05 per contact hour.
