Job Description

Purpose and Scope:

Teaching faculty are responsible for facilitating learning activities and support to help students achieve course objectives while contributing to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses that promote student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired part-time on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon system needs. LSC welcomes applications year-round from qualified candidates interested in teaching part-time. Adjunct faculty hiring is based on student demand, with classes offered during the day, evening, and on weekends at various locations throughout the academic year. Generally, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions

- Teach Dental Hygiene courses at varied times and locations.

- Create engaging lessons that encourage student involvement and application of material.

- Submit required reports and forms promptly.

- Follow established institutional guidelines using a course syllabus for each class.

- Meet with and advise students before or after class, or via electronic communication as needed.

- Evaluate student progress regarding course objectives and communicate results in a timely manner.

- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

- Attend meetings, training sessions, and orientations as required.

- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities

This role may require physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, crouching, stretching, or lifting moderately heavy items.

Work Schedule and Conditions

- Equipment used includes a PC workstation on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other standard office equipment, as well as discipline-specific equipment.

- Interaction with internal and external contacts as necessary to fulfill position functions.

- Work is performed in climate-controlled classrooms and labs with exposure to typical industry safety hazards.

- Hours vary based on class schedules; instructors must meet with classes at scheduled times and be available to students outside of instruction.

Required Qualifications

- Associate degree in dental hygiene and a bachelor's degree, or a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, or a DDS from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited program.

- Three years of non-teaching work experience in the field.

- Current Texas license as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) or Dentist (DDS).

Salary

- $58.05 per contact hour.
